The current global challenges for the forest sector and their relevance at a regional level – The achievements of the FOREST EUROPE process during the last 25 years and its future – The protection of forests in a changing environment – Green economy and social aspects of sustainable forest management.
These are some of the elements that the FOREST EUROPE signatories decided, during the FOREST EUROPE Expert Level Meeting held in Santiago de Compostela on 20-22 January 2015, to tackle in the preparations for the coming 7th FOREST EUROPE Ministerial Conference.
That is why, 54 delegates from 29 FOREST EUROPE signatory countries plus the European Commission and 9 observer organizations, gathered in Madrid, Spain, on 23-27 March 2015 for a drafting Meeting. This was convened with the aim of transforming these general subjects into specific outputs with decisions to be taken by the ministers at the Ministerial Conference.
FOREST EUROPE delegates gave a boost to the drafting of the decisions during these four days, giving a green light to a first version of the documents.
Delegates will continue working on fine-tuning the texts. With this aim a new drafting meeting for the preparation of the 7th FOREST EUROPE Ministerial Conference will be convened on 1-3 June 2015 in Madrid. The Expert Level Meeting, which will take place in the same city on 30 June-2 July (dates to be confirmed), will have to finally approve the documents.
